Authorities are seeking individuals who may have observed a recent incident
In the early hours of this morning (01.08.), a significant fire broke out in an underground garage on Luisenhüttenstraße in Lünen's Geistviertel area.
Initial findings suggest that the garage was fully engulfed in flames, with up to 15 vehicles potentially damaged. Two cars parked above the garage burned completely. Flames from the ventilation shafts of the underground garage were shooting meters high, causing a strong smoke emission that was observed upon arrival.
The firefighters and police were alerted to the incident at around 5:30 AM. As a result, four adjacent residential buildings were evacuated due to the smoke. Fortunately, the injuries sustained during the incident were minor, with a 43-year-old Lünen resident suffering from smoke inhalation. Three others required treatment.
The police are seeking witnesses regarding the fire incident. If you have any information that could be related to the fire, particularly around 5:30 AM, please report it to the Criminal Watch at 0231/132-7441. The Criminal Police have initiated an investigation into the cause of the fire.
The scene was cordoned off, and a support bus was provided for the evacuated residents. The damage from the fire is estimated in the millions.
