Franklin Templeton Announces Live Yield Availability for Digital Asset Holdings
In a groundbreaking move, Franklin Templeton has introduced a new blockchain-driven feature called "Intraday Yield" on its proprietary Benji Technology Platform. This innovative feature represents a departure from traditional investment structures, offering investors a more precise and fair way to earn yields on their tokenized assets.
The Benji Platform, a white-label solution for institutional partners, has been instrumental in several landmark projects in the regulated tokenized fund space. Built in 2017, the platform supports the management, trading, and administration of token-based investments.
One of the institutions that leveraged the Benji Platform is WisdomTree, which launched a US-registered blockchain mutual fund in 2021. The platform also powered the first U.S.-registered blockchain mutual fund and introduced the first tokenized UCITS fund in Luxembourg in 2024.
The composability of blockchain systems, a key feature of the Benji Platform, enables the development of features like Intraday Yield. This offers new levels of operational efficiency, ensuring that investors of all sizes can benefit from the precise, programmable nature of distributed ledger technology.
The Intraday Yield feature allows yield-bearing digital securities to accrue and pay out earnings based on the exact duration of asset ownership, even if assets are transferred within the same day. This real-time earnings model contrasts with the conventional system where yield is calculated only on an end-of-day basis.
Moreover, the Intraday Yield feature supports daily payouts, a departure from the more common monthly distribution schedules used in traditional investment structures. This means that investors holding tokenized assets for only part of a day will now receive compensation for that specific holding time.
Franklin Templeton's digital offerings, underpinned by the Benji Platform, have been making waves in the industry. The Franklin OnChain U.S. Government Money Fund, commonly known as BENJI, is the second-largest tokenized U.S. Treasury fund globally with $750 million in assets under management.
The introduction of the Intraday Yield feature has further reinforced Franklin Templeton's position at the forefront of digital asset innovation within the financial services industry. The company is also demonstrating global expansion with a retail-focused tokenized fund in Singapore currently in development.
Franklin Templeton's Intraday Yield feature is advocating for a new industry standard in tokenized finance, offering a more transparent, efficient, and fair way for investors to earn yields on their tokenized assets. As the industry continues to evolve, it is clear that the Benji Platform will continue to play a crucial role in shaping the future of digital asset management.
